We actively try to care about our environment and we would like to host people who care and appreciate the sense of place too. Ecology was my first degree subject and although Granny House is 400 years old it is an eco-friendly property, because we offer so many eco-friendly credentials, for example:

1, Recycling facilities for paper, glass, metal and plastic.
2, 5.14 kwp of solar panels.
3, Eco-friendly cleaning products
4, The loos have an up and down handle for half flush and full flush.
5, Local independent traders are chosen for building, plumbing, carpentry and electrics, we do all our own decorating and gardening.
6, All green waste is composted.
7, Biodiversity around the cottage is extensive with a large wildflower area, 2 wildlife ponds, a native deciduous woodland all areas that our guests can enjoy.
8, We are not sure how to discourage the use of plastics with our guests, but we ourselves do not use unnecessary single use plastics.
9, Light bulbs are LED.
10, Appliances are energy efficient.
11, Our home grown trees provide the wood for your log burner avoiding the need for coal.
12, Granny House is in a designated dark sky reserve and we provide red light torches, binoculars, a telescope, a bat detector, a bird table and bird seed with identification book.
13, EV charger for electric cars.

We know that our guests want sustainability because researchers have come up with these facts:

Nielsen IQ: 78% consumers say a sustainable lifestyle is important to them

McKinsey: 60% of customers actively prioritise purchasing from sustainable businesses

Capgemini: 77% of customers buy from and remain loyal to brands that show their social responsibility

We know our contribution is small and we can always do better but we are trying and we hope you will too.
